Romans 7:14 states, “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.” The apostle Paul wrote to the church in Rome that they were to call upon the name of the Lord, Romans 10:13. We know we are to call not only for His salvation, but throughout our Christian life for empowerment and leadership.

Paul wrote that the Holy Spirit has put to death the sin nature. John 3:3, 5 tells us that we are born of God’s Spirit, i.e. born again/a second time. The new believer is now faced with the choice of following God or following the old nature of sin. Apart for Christ Jesus, people are controlled by their human desires. Those who belong to Christ by faith, are controlled by a new nature, which we get at the salvation moment. They are led by the Spirit of God according Romans 8:14.

The apostle Paul tells the church in Rome that both nature still compete with each other for control, but they are not equally powerful. The old nature is deceptive and focuses on self. It is tries to sneak into your life by creeping back in by elusive ways. That is why we must guard our hearts, minds, ears, and eyes.

Our walk with Christ energizes the new nature. We allow the Holy Spirit to have total control of and in our lives when we spend time in God’s Word, in prayer, worship and in missions evangelizing. Sin was defeated once and for all at the cross. The victory was won at Calvary. Our responsibility is not to wrestle against sin, writes Paul, instead we are to call upon the Holy Spirit to provide victory. According to Romans 8:13 we are putting to death the deeds, the desire of sin, when we call upon God’s Spirit to help us overcome!

The only question is whether or not we will choose to allow God’s Spirit the freedom to have total control of our lives and to rid our lives of sin. The question is, “have you been truly saved by God’s grace? In other words, was there a time when you

  • Admitted to God you were a sinner and had sinned against Him.
  • Believed that Jesus is God’s Son. That He is the Savior, who redeems lost people.
  • Confessed your sins to God asking Him to forgive you
  • Asked Jesus to become Lord and Savior of your soul and life. Then and only then are you a child of God and His Spirit is in you.

In the Gospel of John, Chapter three, Jesus told a religious teacher of Israel, “You cannot see the Kingdom of Heaven unless you are born again.  He also said, “You cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven unless you are born again.” Vv3 and 5.

If you have never confessed you are a sinner to God, and you have not trusted in Jesus to be your Lord, (Supreme Authoritative Leader) and Savior, (He has died for your sins on the cross), then you need to pray to God in Jesus name. Remember, to become a child of God is a one time event, just like when you born the physically. Pray to God, say,

Dear God, I have sinned against You. I need Your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus is Your Son that He died for my sin on the cross, was buried and rose again on the third day. Jesus please save me, I need Your forgiveness. I give my life to You. Help me to live for You and be Your witness. Thanks You for giving Your forgiveness and eternal life. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.
